The adaptation of Call of Duty to the big screen had been rumored for years. Activision’s shooter game dominates much of the annual sales calendar, installment after installment. The next stop in the video game series is Black Ops 7, but the publisher has big plans: the movie is already in the works.

Paramount, through Deadline, has confirmed the signing of an agreement that will link the brand to the production company for a film that does not yet have a release date or director. It has been revealed that the studio in charge will be the same as the one behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ If they manage at least to match the action in the Tom Cruise film, watch out.

Activision’s role in the film: a plan that depends on the success of the first one

Activision will participate in the project as a creative collaborator. The goal is the usual one for this type of adaptation: to amass fan service for the audience loyal to the video game while seeking to become a gateway. In the case of Call of Duty, it’s hard for anyone not to know what it is, but anyway.

As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true,” said David Ellison, CEO of Paramount, in a statement. “[...] We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve.”

On the other hand, Rob Kostich, president of Activision, points out that this film “will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place.” The plan of both groups is ambitious, so much so that there is even talk of an interconnected universe with video games depending on the success of this release.
