The creator of Final Fantasy is working on a new game and is far from retirement
Hironobu Sakaguchi has chosen to keep gracing fans with new adventures, as h’s just announced a new game is on the way.
One of the biggest legends of the video game industry is Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy and an indispensable figure in the history and world of Japanese video games. This edition of the Tokyo Game Show will have the honor of having Sakaguchi as he presents FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, the improved console version of the JRPG that was until recently exclusive to Apple Arcade, and which will be available this winter on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A game that was once seen as his last work, but that now has become only his latest as he has already confirmed that he is working on a new game with his studio Mistwalker, with retirement not among his current plans.
In an interview with Famitsu, Sakaguchi confessed that “I genuinely did Fantasian thinking it could be my retirement work, but yes, I’m getting back into it. We are starting to talk about a new project... that is, we are making a new game.”

Hironobu Sakaguchi noted that “It’s almost the same team that worked on Fantasian, but I can’t tell you what we’re working on yet. One thing I can say is that game production is fun. It’s probably more of a pleasure than a job now.” A veteran stage of his career in which he enjoys the projects and he says that “it may be that I am getting older, but I have realized that it is very pleasant to be part of a group of people. I’m excited to be able to develop again with everyone. By the way, on a personal note, I will soon have a grandson. I hope to be able to incorporate what I feel at that moment into the new game.”
There is no confirmation about the game Sakaguchi has said he is working on, but Mistwalker filed a trademark called ‘Fantasian: Dark Edge’ last June.
