Update:

Without taking a break after the slow and painful agony of summer, the team at Limited Run Games is launching an incredible offer. They’ve prepared a gift for all those who enjoy a touch of horror in their action-adventure games. Fear Effect, the cinematic action game with cel-shaded graphics from 2000, is back, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and, for the first time, on Steam.

What is Fear Effect and why is it a classic?

Originally released in 2000, developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment and published by Eidos Interactive for the first PlayStation, Fear Effect begins with the disappearance of an enigmatic teenager. The mission is simple: track her down in order to extort a ransom from her wealthy father. However, within days, players find themselves immersed in an intense thriller where they must fight for survival against the most unimaginable enemies.

This title is considered groundbreaking for its revolutionary Motion FX technology, which places 3D characters within dynamic, full-motion video worlds. An approach that was innovative at the time and, 25 years after its release, remains a milestone in the industry.

Improvements that make the return even more exciting

In collaboration with Implicit Conversions, the team has worked hard to breathe new life into Fear Effect. This is not a simple port, but a revamped version with substantial improvements. Among the new features that will positively impact the player’s gaming experience are:

  • Time Rewind: A feature that allows you to rewind the timeline.
  • Quick saves: Save states that make progression easier.
  • Ultra-fast loading times.
  • Optional “tank” style controls.
  • Widescreen support.
  • Retro video filters to relive the original experience with a touch of nostalgia.

These additions ensure that the retro experience feels fresh and terrifyingly exciting, just like when it was first played. Fear Effect offers between 7 and 9 hours of action-packed gameplay, with numerous enemies and boss battles. Players will decide who lives and who dies, if they are able to control their fear.
