The cursed character from the MCU finally finds his place and looks a lot like the actor who was promised

While he’s not Mahershala Ali, the Blade from ‘Marvel Zombies’ looks a lot like the actor; a statement of intent from Marvel Studios?

Marvel Zombies

Marvel Studios’ new product is coming, this time as an animated miniseries for Disney+: Marvel Zombies. Yes, because as Kevin Feige promised, we’ll get our fill of guts, blood, and gore in this new television production that continues the story of that episode of What If... dedicated to the popular Marvel Comics sub-series for adults only. And to the delight of MCU fans, it seems that we will finally have a completely unleashed Blade beyond Wesley Snipes’ return as such in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’. And while it’s not Mahershala Ali, the Oscar-winning actor who has been trying for years to get his movie as Marvel’s vampire hunter off the ground, it does look a lot like him. Is Marvel Studios trying to tell us something?

A new Blade bursts onto the scene in Marvel Zombies: Mahershala Ali?

Marvel Studios’ new miniseries finally premieres on September 24, and thanks to its new trailer, we can enjoy the most violent and sadistic Marvel to date, albeit in animated format, which also gives its creators more freedom to cross any kind of boundary. Not surprisingly, this first preview, which you can see at the beginning of this article, already warns that this is a product only for adults. And preferably those who don’t have a weak stomach.

And among the protagonists of Marvel Zombies, one character stands out as being perfectly suited to this type of setting: Blade. A character we have been waiting for for years in the MCU, Kevin Feige tried to please fans by bringing back the original Blade from the movies, Wesley Snipes, as part of the multiversal cameos in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.

But fans want Mahershala Ali, the actor who was introduced with great fanfare six years ago as the new Blade and who has been trying to get his own movie off the ground ever since, overcoming all kinds of setbacks such as discarded scripts, director changes, and more. Be that as it may, for now we have a Blade who, curiously, looks a lot like Mahershala Ali, but who has not been voiced by the Oscar-winning actor.

Instead, Todd Williams has been chosen, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. Let’s remember that last June, Ali himself confessed that he was still behind the project to be Blade in the MCU: “Call Marvel,” said the actor. “I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.” Kevin Feige himself responded shortly after that “Mahershala Ali is still involved,” pointing to Marvel Studios’ “over-expansion” as one of the reasons for the film’s continued delays.

In this alternate universe, the Avengers have become zombies, so the rest of the survivors will have to face the undead plague led by the zombified versions of Scarlet Witch and Thanos, with Black Widow, Red Guardian, Spider-Man, and Blade himself, among others, taking them on.

In its original version, Marvel Zombies features the voices of Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Black Widow, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as Katy Chen, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Dominique Thorne as Ironheart. Marvel Zombies will arrive on Disney+ on September 24.
