The deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that could shape the future of the MCU

With the home release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 close to release, a deleted scene has been revealed that confirms the fate of an important character.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the ending to James Gunn’s beloved MCU trilogy, saw the titular team of heroes facing off and defeating one of Marvel’s best villains yet. But while many thought the High Evolutionary was dead and done at the end of the movie, a deleted scene has revealed otherwise.

Shared by IGN as an exclusive clip, the newly released scene shows off the actual fate of the villain after their encounter with the Guardians. Having been defeated by his own creation, it’s now Rocket’s turn to imprison him, and in the clip below you can see exactly that.

The future of the Guardians, and the MCU

The short scene has no dialogue between the two characters, and the CGI is unpolished, but the effect remains: Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary is seen adjusting his fake face, inside of a laser cell on Knowhere which is being locked up by Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Racoon himself. The villain is revealed to have survived the destruction of his ship at the film’s climax battle (something that Gunn himself had already suggested via Twitter).

After Rocket walks away visibly happy, the focus shifts to Sean Gunn’s Kraglin serving drinks to the new refugees of Knowhere. He walks towards Will Pooulter’s Adam, and asks for his name. This interaction hints at the golden boy being recruited to join the new Guardians roster, with Kraglin suggesting that he needs a “metal” name, claiming that just “Adam” isn’t a good hero title. In the comics, the character becomes Adam Warlock, one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, so this seems to imply that he’s still on the way to becoming that in the MCU.

The High Evolutionary may have been a more personal threat to the Guardians than the entire universe, but perhaps that is why he’s being considered one of the MCU’s best villains yet. Be as it may, he’s now one of the few nemesis to have survived their encounter with a hero team, which means that the doors are open to the possibility of his return. Should Marvel Studios want to bring him back in some shape or form, there’s plenty that they could do to have him return.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will have a Digital Release on July 7, with physical copies on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 1.
