The director of ‘The Batman 2’ confirms The Penguin will be in the movie among other villains
Colin Farrell’s ‘The Penguin’ series will link directly with ‘The Batman 2′, as he’s set to return to the universe in the highly awaited sequel to Matt Reeve’s Batman universe.
‘The Batman 2′ is one of the most anticipated superhero movies of the coming years, and such was the success of the film starring Robert Pattinson that DC Studios has decided to keep its world separate from James Gunn’s new DC Universe. That’s when productions like the series ‘The Penguin’ enter the scene, with them connecting directly with the sequel including the Penguin himself played by Colin Farrell.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, the film’s director, Matt Reeves, confirmed that “Colin [Farrell] will be part of the movie. We’ve shared [the script] as we’ve been going along with DC and the studio and they’re super excited.”
The long-awaited return of ‘The Batman’
Regarding the sequel, Reeves confirmed that the ‘Penguin’ series is the “entry point” to ‘The Batman 2′, a film that is “absolutely connected to where we leave things in the series. There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins, and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case.” For Reeves, this universe of ‘The Batman’ is “a meditation on the way Gotham is the way it is. It’s such a brutal place and we’re digging for the answers as to why these people’s lives are this way.”
One of the darkest and crudest Batman that we have seen in cinema will continue to delve into that way of seeing the character, and Reeves highlights that this second part is “going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one. The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie, and it expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see. Batman is constantly battling these forces. But those forces can’t be entirely exorcised. So the next movie delves deeper into that.”
What other villains will there be in ‘The Batman 2′? One of those who could appear is Hush, who appeared for the first time in 2003 and would be his debut in a live-action superhero movie. The villain was mentioned by Riddler in the first film, and another villain that fits is the Gentleman Ghost, who appears in ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’, the animated series produced by Matt Reeves himself.
