The dystopian thriller that reimagines a Schwarzenegger classic: now No. 1 in 18 countries

‘The Running Man’ starring Glen Powell is a global streaming hit: how to watch the fast-paced film based on the Stephen King novel in the United States.

The Running Man 2025

Released in 1987, ‘The Running Man’ adapted Stephen King’s novel of the same name to offer viewers a brutal dystopian spectacle starring an increasingly popular Arnold Schwarzenegger, following his appearances in other 1980s films such as the two ‘Conan’ installments, ‘The Terminator’, ‘Commando’, and ‘Predator’. The film wasn’t particularly well-received—it has a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—despite managing to break even at the box office. Well, in late 2025, a sort of remake starring Glen Powell, titled ‘The Running Man,’ was released, and it has just experienced a notable surge in popularity on streaming platforms, to the point of becoming the new number one in 18 countries.

‘The Running Man’ Is a Streaming Hit

This is evident from the latest data shared by FlixPatrol, which highlights that the 2025 film ‘The Running Man’ is one of the most-watched movies right now. Not surprisingly, it’s the top-ranked title on Paramount+, ranking number one in as many as 18 countries. The new film, directed and written by Edward Wright, is available to stream on Paramount+, while it can be purchased or rented on Amazon Video, Fandango At Home, and the Apple TV Store.

The Running Man is a fun and crazy deadly game where contestants must survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins. Every move is broadcast to a bloodthirsty audience, and the reward gets bigger every day. Ben Richards (Glen Powell), a working-class man, is forced to compete by the ruthless producer (Josh Brolin). Ben’s grit, instincts, and determination make him a fan favorite and a threat to the entire system,” reads the official synopsis.

The 2025 version of ‘The Running Man’ isn’t much of an improvement over the original film—let alone Stephen King’s short story—as it currently holds a modest 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, though it offers nonstop action throughout its runtime, with Glen Powell at the top of his game as he desperately flees and survives the bloodiest threats of a dystopian future that shows no mercy to the weak.
