The fever for live-action adaptations continues to haunt every major studio in Hollywood, it seems, with ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ being one of the most recent and awaited for its jump to live-action cinema. Now, the first image of the film has been released, and while it’s not much to go by it works to set up what fans should expect from it. In the photo (revealed by Empire Magazine as the first teaser for their upcoming piece on the movie) you can see Hiccup (Mason Thames) thrust into the training arena where he is supposed to fight and kill his first dragon.

At the same time, other images from the footage of the movie also leaked online, with the studio swiftly taking action to remove them from social media. Still, these leaked captures showcased Toothless in all of its splendor, with them being stills from the scene where Hiccup and the wounded dragon first form a bond.

The popular animated saga based on the children’s book by Cressida Cowell aims to be, in its live-action version, one of the biggest premieres of 2025 in movie theaters around the world. The film also features Gerard Butler and Nick Frost in its cast as well as other actors such as Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn.

The big return of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’

What is ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ about? The animated film is “set in a mythical world of tough Vikings and wild dragons.” It tells the story of Hiccup, a teenage Viking who doesn’t exactly fit into his tribe’s ancient reputation as dragonslayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from a totally different point of view.
