The first teaser trailer for ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ reveals Toothless in all his glory

After the first images of the live-action adaptation of ‘How To Train Your Dragon’, Universal has unleashed the first teaser trailer for the upcoming reboot.

como entrenar a tu dragon

How To Train Your Dragon’ became one of the most beloved animated trilogies of all time, spawning not only sequels and spin-offs, but also building a massive fanbase that was left craving for more of Hiccup, Toothless and the rest of the denizens of Berk. So news about its eventual adaptation to live-action were not quite a surprise. Today, Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for the reboot, and while there’s still some work to be done what we’re being shown is still incredible.

The short trailer gives us just enough of a glimpse at the world of HTTYD, with Gerard Butler reprising the role of Stoick the Vast in full Viking regalia and beard. But more importantly, we can finally see Mason Thames embodying Hiccup and his first interactions with Toothless, the Night Fury whom he knocks out of the air and begins to build a relationship that will let him change the world he lives in. The friendship between the two is the very core of the entire series, so how the dragon would look interacting with a live person was one of the biggest concerns for fans, but with this we can see that the design and look of the entire project is headed in the right direction.

The era of live-action adaptations

From video game adaptations to old animated classics, it seems like Hollywood is hellbent on remaking every older property they’re able to. For 2025 ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ has set itself as the most high-profile adaptation on the books, especially as the original animated film depended heavily on its cartoony and stylized looks to make the world of dragons believable. We’ll have to wait for the full film before we can decide whether this fantastic realism works for the franchise or not.
