The first Wonka trailer doesn’t have Johnny Depp, but it does have Oompa Loompas
The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel starring Timothée Chalamet, Wonka, has unleashed its colorful musical charm with a first trailer.
Timothée Chalamet is going to have a very busy end of the year. On November 3, the actor will be riding sandworms on Arrakis (as he did in the last trailer of Dune Part 2) and a month later we will have him donning his best clothes and becoming the King of Candy in Wonka, the one that is being called the biggest movie this Christmas. Warner Bros has just published the first trailer (below these lines) in which the release date is also confirmed: December 15 of 2023.
A Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel
As you may have deduced, the name of the film is due to the famous Willy Wonka, the fictional character created by Roald Dahl in the stories Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the often unknown Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. Last played in 2005 by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s adaptation.
This time the film is a prequel that will be directed by Paul King (the person in charge of Paddington’s movies) and that will tell the story of Willy Wonka’s youth, before he opened his world-famous chocolate factory. The film will follow in the footsteps of Burton’s and it will be a musical, including some curious novelties such as Hugh Grant being one of the mythical Oompa Loompas.
Hugh Grant will be joined by top-level stars such as Oscar winner Olivia Colman and the eternal Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), all of them willing to dance and sing in numbers and choreographies that look full of color and imagination. We will also see how Timothée Chalamet handles Wonka’s legacy, played by many mythical actors. At the moment it looks even sweeter than the factory’s chocolate.
