The ‘Harry Potter’ series on Max gets a release date update

Scriptwriters are already hard at work, as the ‘Harry Potter’ series set to adapt the books in long-form television is deep in pre-production.

Magic takes time. HBO is preparing the ‘Harry Potter’ series, which will encompass the seven-year course of the wizard boy with an entirely new cast as its stars. In a similar way to what the movies did, children will grow along with the series throughout its various seasons, which will focus on adapting the original novels by J.K. Rowling. The series is in pre-production already and the creative team has started the casting process in the United Kingdom to find the young actors and actresses who will play Harry, Hermione, Ron, and company. Meanwhile, some are wondering when it will arrive on Max. Casey Bloys, head of content for the platform and HBO, has acknowledged in an interview with Deadline that it’s still very early, although he provided a release window.

In what year will the ‘Harry Potter’ series come out?

“Writers have started. [Director] Mark Mylod has started,” said Bloys. “The team, they’re hiring department heads, casting, and we’re off. We haven’t announced any [date]. I think they were talking about age [the young actors] will be in March, but that doesn’t mean necessarily a production start date. Late ‘26-’27. Writers are just getting started so it’s too soon to talk about airdate”

A few months ago, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav showed his enthusiasm for the project and revealed that they had met with J.K. Rowling: “Our conversations were great, We couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come,” he said at the time. In these statements, the manager already pointed out that their goal was to debut in 2026.
