‘The House of the Dead’ is getting a new movie adaptation by the director of ‘Resident Evil’ and ‘Mortal Kombat’
Paul W.S. Anderson, director of the Resident Evil movie franchise, is bringing Sega’s “The House of the Dead’ to the big screen as well.
A ‘The House of Dead’ live-action adaptation is in development under the direction of Paul W. S. Anderson, the director better known for his video game adaptations, including films like ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘Resident Evil’ and ‘Monster Hunter’. Deadline reports that Anderson and Jeremy Bolt (acting as executive producer) are working on the film, as well as Toru Nakahara, Sega executive, who has acted as supervisor for the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movies and its spin-offs.
The House of the Dead is a Sega arcade classic that was first released in 1997 and has had many installments and spin-offs over the years, with its first three titles being the most recognized by players. Rail shooters were always synonymous with success in arcades, offering a great experience to players trying to survive the terror with guns in hand, and THOTD was one of the most successful ones during the heyday of the arcade scene.
The return of ‘House of the Dead’ to the world of cinema
This is not the first time that Sega’s legendary horror saga will reach theaters, but the one that precedes Paul W. S. Anderson’s project is a film that is worth forgetting. Its director? Uwe Boll, and if this name sounds familiar to you, you probably already know what kind of movie we are talking about. The German director was recognized in his day for producing multiple films based on video games at a time when the film industry still did not pay much attention to this medium, something very different from today. A film that had a sequel in 2006 and that was the beginning of Uwe Boll’s horror story in the cinema and its terrible adaptations.
