‘The Hunger Games’ returns with a new book and movie: ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’
A much-loved character will play a major role in the new saga.
Fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ are in luck because a new novel in the saga by Suzanne Collins will be released next year, and it already has a date for the movie. The name of this new book is ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ and will hit bookstores on March 18, 2025. Meanwhile, the film adaptation will come from Lionsgate, scheduled for November 20, 2026, and Francis Lawrence, who has worked on all but the first ‘Hunger Games’ movie, will return as director.
Like ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,’ it will serve as a prequel to the original trilogy, and all points out that it will focus on one of the most popular characters; Haymitch Abernathy, the character played by Woody Harrelson. Abernathy was the winner of the 50th Hunger Games, and ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ will begin at the harvest of those Games, the moment when the tributes are chosen to participate in this bloody and deadly event.
‘The Hunger Games’ continues to deepen its storyline
‘The Hunger Games’ was first published in 2008 and concluded its original trilogy in 2010. After that, we had to wait a decade to enjoy Suzanne Collins’ work again, in the form of a prequel that tells the story of the 10th Hunger Games. This time we return to the past, albeit in a much more recent form, but that will serve to delve deeper into a universe that has a legion of followers.
The latest movie in the series, ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, had a review in Meristation, which highlighted that “we have a different movie from the original saga and maybe not as good as the first ones, but clearly better than the last two. An installment with its own personality that still has a good number of references and winks to the fans of Katniss and company.”
