The ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ director dismisses the possibility of a ‘Joker 3’: “The story is told”

Todd Phillips, the director of ‘Joker’ and its upcoming sequel, has revealed that there are no plans for a third movie to happen.

Although first impressions of ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ are leaving critics with mixed feelings, there is no doubt that it continues to be one of the most anticipated films of the year. The success of the first film, which earned several Oscars including Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, and the change of direction for this sequel, mean that the public’s curiosity has not been lowered one bit despite several of the reviews collected on Rotten Tomatoes. However, according to what Todd Phillips, its director, says, it is practically certain that it is the end of the story and there will not be a third movie in the series.

From the outset, Phillips has admitted that it was already difficult to convince Phoenix to come back for a new installment of a saga, something he had never done in his career, but just in case there were any doubts, in an interview with Collider he left things very clear.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker ends in ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’

“The last day on this one was very different because we were in New York shooting on the stairs with 8,000 paparazzi people” Phillips explains. “It was a very frustrating day, so we all wanted to get the hell out of there. But we then had this little get-together downtown at my friend’s bar, and it was actually really beautiful. Joaquin and Gaga and everybody was there, and, of course, the crew. Again, you’ll see the movie, and you’ll go, ‘Oh, I get it. The story is told.”
