The Last of Us series already has its Abby: Kaitlyn Dever is the chosen actress
Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby in the second season of The Last of Us on HBO Max. Dever will play the character that caused the most division among fans of The Last of Us: Part II.
The Last of Us Season 2, the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game on HBO, has already cast an actress to play the role of Abby. Kaitlyn Dever will bring the character from the game to life on the small screen. We have seen Dever in shows like ‘Last Man Standing’, ‘Justified’ and ‘Dopesick’, and in movies like ‘Booksmart’ and ‘Rosaline’.
Kaitlyn Dever to Play Abby in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2
As reported by Variety, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, co-creators of HBO Max’s ‘The Last of Us’ series, have cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in the second season of ‘The Last of Us’. The second season will begin production later this year and air in 2025.
“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” the co-creators told Variety. “Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.” This is how Mazin and Druckmann justify their choice. Dever, born in 1996, will bring Abby Anderson to life in the second season of “The Last of Us” on HBO Max.
Abby Anderson was a controversial character in The Last of Us: Part II, the sequel to the original game and the title that will adapt the second season of the series. Without going into spoilers so as not to ruin the plot, some of Abby’s actions towards one of the most beloved characters of the saga did not please many players, causing many fans to focus their hatred and anger towards Laura Bailey (her voice actress) and Jocelyn Mettler (who lent her face to the character in the video game).
The first season of ‘The Last of Us’ swept the most recent edition of the Emmy Awards, held in January 2024, with eight statuettes:

There has also been talk of a possible spin-off starring Bill and Frank, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett’s characters.
