The Last of Us will need 3 more seasons to adapt the second game in the saga
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are considering splitting the sequel into three seasons that would run until 2029, not counting the third game of the saga, already on the way.
Many have wondered how The Last of Us series would address the dramatic structure of the second game, and rightly so. This is one of the most controversial aspects of the sequel. Full of time jumps and points of view, with a mid-game breakdown that was the most criticized thing about the game. The issue presented is even more complex on television, but it seems that Craig Mazin, Neil Druckmann, and Max have already made a decision.
According to Deadline, the show will opt for a second season of only seven episodes and a longer third season, although the number of episodes has yet to be determined (maybe ten?). But there’s more. The publication assures that they are not sure if they can cover all the events of the game with two, and also consider a fourth that allows them to do things at their own pace.
If the news is confirmed, and considering the time between the first and the second (two years, since the original came out in 2023 and its sequel is scheduled for 2025), we are talking about the fourth season could go until 2029. Perhaps this will solve the famous complaint of the most diehard fans of the game, who say that Bella Ramsey looks too young nowadays (she is currently 20 years old and if she finishes at the end of the decade, we would be talking about 25).
Also, since The Last of Us 3 seems to be an open secret, no one should rule out that a hypothetical fourth season could mix the events of the second and third games. It will either be that or go to five, six, or even seven seasons. Of course, Max was very serious when he said he wanted to tell Joel and Ellie’s story in his new ‘Game of Thrones’.
