The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s ESRB rating reveals details about the new adventure

One of the surprises of the most recent Nintendo Direct in June was the announcement of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’, a title in which, for the first time in almost 38 years and in a canonical way, Princess Zelda will be the protagonist and in charge of saving Hyrule instead of Link. Ahead of its release, the ESRB has revealed more details about this upcoming adventure.

Although the video presentation of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’ let us see that Zelda will be the protagonist, the ESRB rating has revealed that at some point in the story, we will also control Link using “a sword and arrows to defeat enemies”, although it is clear that the story will continue to highlight the princess of Hyrule.

“This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link”, reads the ESRB’s description of the game. “From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. Battle sequences are somewhat frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.”

From the presentation trailer, we can see that Link is the one who comes to save Zelda, and while he is being absorbed, he manages to save Zelda with one last arrow. A description that also matches what the ESRB wrote about the game. It is not at all unlikely that the story of the game will begin with Link and then pass the baton of hero of Hyrule to Zelda once we have advanced to that point in the story.

‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’ is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 26.
