The Legend of Zelda movie casting rumor is stirring debate among fans

Video game adaptations are often hit or miss, and while fans have had more wins than losses recently, there are certainly those who have lost. For a beloved, long-running franchise like The Legend of Zelda, every detail must be carefully considered, so keep an eye out for any rumors.

This brings us to one of the most recent reports from celebrity leaker DanielRPK. He claims that actress Hunter Schafer is in the running to play Princess Zelda. While there has been a lot of speculation about this casting choice online, this is the first time a leaker has treated this information as something that could happen.

The actress became known thanks to the HBO series Euphoria and later made the leap to film with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Yorgos Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness, and the horror film Cuckoo.

The announcement of the movie was not so surprising after the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. What was surprising is that it was a live-action movie instead of an animated one. In November 2023, Nintendo and Sony Pictures announced an alliance to produce the film, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers. Wes Ball, who directed the film series ‘The Maze Runner’ (2014–2018) and ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ (2024), will direct the film.

At the time, Ball talked about what people can expect from the movie, mentioning that “I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin’ time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be.... I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people, and I want it to be a serious movie.”

We already have a release date, but yes, we will have to wait: The Legend of Zelda will hit theaters on March 26, 2027.

There has been no talk yet about a possible cast, but in addition to Schafer, Emma Myers sounds like another candidate to play the mythical princess.
