The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with no plans for expansions or DLC

The franchise’s producer assures that the studio has already squeezed as much as possible out of the world and its possibilities.

Update:
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Months before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo’s website hinted at possible downloadable content for the title starring Link. After all, almost all of the Kyoto-based company’s first-party games include some sort of Expansion Pass, although it does not appear that this Zelda will be any different. At least that’s what Eiji Aonuma, the game’s producer, said in an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Go Nintendo).

Why are there no plans to release DLC for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

According to the producer, the developers have already experienced everything they wanted to experience in the universe they have created: “There are no plans to release additional content this time, but that’s because I feel like I’ve done everything I can to create games in that world,” he explained.

In the first place, the reason why we chose this time as a sequel to the previous game is because we thought there would be value in experiencing a new kind of play in that place in Hyrule.” According to the producer, if that feeling returns, you could return to that world again, either in another sequel or in a new game. “I think it will be a completely new way to play, so I’d be happy if you could look forward to it.”

Breath of the Wild has received additional content, both in the form of new challenges and the Champions’ Ballad expansion. As for the sequel, it remains to be seen if new plans will emerge as time goes on, or if they will opt to make the leap to the next installment of the saga.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the biggest games of the year. Nintendo’s next big game is Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a title we had the chance to play at Gamescom, so read our first impressions.
