Silk: Spider Society’, the live-action series of Sony’s Spiderverse announced in 2020, will no longer see the light, as Amazon has canceled the development of the Prime Video production after four years of setbacks. This was reported by Deadline, which also shared that this spin-off produced by Sony Pictures and Amazon has had a rough time in pre-production, despite having two heavyweights, Phil Lord and Chris Miller (‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’), as executive producers.

‘Silk: Spider Society’ is lost in the Spiderverse

The news comes just a few days after the announcement of a live-action show based on ‘Spider-Man Noir’starring Nicolas Cage, an actor who will continue to be linked to said version of the wall-crawler after lending his voice to the same character in the Spider-verse animated films.

But back to ‘Silk: Spider Society’, the details of its cancellation have not emerged, although Deadline is pointing at a tortuous production full of setbacks that have not allowed it to advance at a good pace, so those responsible have chosen to focus their efforts on other projects instead of continuing to work on a development doomed to failure.

It seems like up to three different versions of the series were proposed, with one of them leaving aside its main protagonist, Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman with spider-like powers similar to those of Spider-Man. How did they intend to make a Silk series without Silk herself?

Silk, the arachnid alias of Cindy Moon, was born in the Marvel Comics event Original Sin from 2014 with her own origin story. After going through a traumatic development of her powers, Cindy found understanding in Ezekiel, a member of the mysterious Spider Society, and a mentor who would teach her how to use her powers and protect her from Morlun, the ‘spider eater’.
