The hit fantasy series ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, produced by Amazon Studios for Prime Video, has been officially renewed for a third season. The new episodes will begin filming this spring in the UK at Shepperton Studios and promise to take viewers into a new phase of the saga, with a major time jump in the plot.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Season 3 will take place several years after the events of Season 2 and will focus on the climax of the war between the Elves and Sauron. In this new phase, the fearsome Dark Lord will begin to forge the One Ring, a pivotal moment in the history of Middle-earth that will turn the tide of the war and bring Sauron closer to his goal of dominating the continent.

‘The Rings of Power’ hires ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ director

The series has also confirmed the return of several key players to direct The Rings of Power. International Emmy nominee Charlotte Brändström will reprise her role after directing several episodes in the first and second seasons. Sanaa Hamri, who also directed episodes last season, is back, while Stefan Schwartz, known for his work on ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Walking Dead’, is the big signing for the future of the series. And of course, executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay remain at the helm of the project.

Season 3 of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ will delve deeper into the War of Eriador, which pitted the armies of the Elves against Sauron’s Orcs over several years of the Second Age. When will it be released? We will have to wait until at least 2026.
