The “lucky” actor who filmed two sex scenes with Anne Hathaway: “I recommend sleeping with her”
Jake Gyllenhaal admits that filming intimate scenes with the Oscar-winning actress who played Catwoman is an incredible experience.
Sex scenes, nudity, or other intimate moments on film are often a major challenge for actors, and in many cases, an unpleasant one. But for Jake Gyllenhaal — the star of Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, among many others — they can be wonderful, especially when they involve Anne Hathaway, the Oscar-winning star of Les Misérables who also played Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. In fact, the two have shared intimate scenes in two different movies, with Gyllenhaal joking that he would even recommend the experience to other men. He made the remark while promoting Love & Other Drugs alongside Hathaway.
Jake Gyllenhaal has great chemistry with Anne Hathaway
The pair co-starred in Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and Love & Other Drugs in 2010 — two very different films that nonetheless have one thing in common: sex scenes between the two in which they felt completely at ease with each other, even though Hathaway once admitted that she cried before every intimate scene in the romantic comedy. Either way, Gyllenhaal said he was more than comfortable in their on-screen encounters:
“I’m lucky. Annie and I had already had s*x on film in Brokeback Mountain, so I wasn’t too nervous. There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical. It’s all about rhythm. There’s a rhythm to writing, there’s a rhythm to sports, and there’s a rhythm to s*x. I recommend getting in bed with Anne Hathaway to any man,” the actor joked.
Hathaway, however, had a different story from the Love & Other Drugs set — one that left her mortified. “We’d been shooting for a few hours, the ice was broken and everything was fine, we were just back from lunch and I’d gone behind the set and was talking to someone. Then all of a sudden someone whispers ‘Annie you’re on!’” The actress thought the cameras were rolling, since the crew had gone quiet and there were only hushed voices.
She immediately took off her coat and was completely naked. Gyllenhaal was just as confused. As it turned out, they weren’t filming yet. “I realise the camera is in a different place and we’re still rehearsing and that I got naked unnecessarily in front of everyone! So then I pulled my trench coat on very quickly and it was obviously a case of life imitating art!” she said with a laugh.
