Star Wars

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is bringing back a long-lost Star Wars character

Jeremy Allen White, the star of ‘The Bear’, has been chosen to play a returning role in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu

In the original ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ movie, a feature film that served as a pilot to the series of the same name, the Jedi Order entrusts Anakin Skywalker to instruct his new Padawan, the young Ahsoka Tano. As both have a particular character, they believe that this relationship can soften the most conflictive points of their respective personalities (instead of reinforcing them). Their first joint mission is to rescue the son of crime lord Jabba the Hutt, a small slug that goes by the name of Rotta Desilijic Tiure (Stinky according to Ahsoka). After achieving the goal, he is barely mentioned in the series, much less in other products. Now, everything seems to indicate that he will return in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, the long-awaited new movie starring Din Djarin and little Grogu.

The information has been provided by Jeff Sneider, an insider who usually leaks some information related to large productions. According to their sources, ‘The Bear’ star Jeremy Allen White will voice the character. Rotta The Hutt was a baby at the time of the Clone Wars and it could well continue to be so, since in Legends the life expectancy of this species was approximately 1,000 years. This may have changed in the current canon, so we will have to wait to find out how it is integrated into the narrative.

What happened to Jabba’s son?

Rotta The Hutt was kidnapped during the conflict known as the Clone Wars. Were the Separatists who colluded with Rotta’s great-uncle —Ziro the Hutt— to take the little one. The main objective was for negotiations between the Galactic Republic and the Hutts to break down, although in the end Anakin and Ahsoka managed to rescue him.

Like the series, ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is set years after ‘Return of the Jedi’. Thus, Jabba the Hutt is dead and his criminal empire has fallen. As shown in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, his lieutenant Bib Fortuna sat on Jabba’s throne when he was killed by Leia, but was unable to keep the syndicate together, so other factions took over some of the power. Then, Boba Fett broke into Jabba’s Palace and claimed the position of new Daimyo of Tatooine., which of course triggered a new war between criminal syndicates.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be released on May 22, 2026. During the Premiere of ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’, Dave Filoni confirmed that filming has already concluded.
