The Metal Gear Solid movie is still alive, although some changes have happened
Despite the silence for many months, it seems like the Metal Gear Solid movie is still in the works, with the producer shedding some light on the situation.
It’s been a long road for the Metal Gear Solid adaptation to the big screen, and although the loss of Oscar Isaac in the starring role has made many doubt the possibility of the project actually getting done, it seems like the movie is still being worked on actively. At least according to its main producer.
According to what producer Ari Arad said in an interview with Game, there are no worries about the project getting canceled, although it’s still a long ways off from actually happening. “We’re working on the script some more, but I can’t talk about it yet,” he said. “I think everyone’s going to be really excited and surprised.”
When asked if he thought about the MGS movie as the pinnacle of his many video game adaptations (as he produced the Uncharted adaptation, the upcoming Borderlands movie, and his production company is attached to both a Naruto adaptation and the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie that was recently revealed to be in the works), he said that he “never thought about it like that. These are just movies I want to make as good as possible, you know?”
“I think getting Metal Gear right will obviously be amazing because I think it’s a lot more meditative than some of the other adaptations. Personally, I want it to be terrific”
Metal Gear Solid is making a comeback
Not only is the movie still in the works, but the franchise seems to be well in its way to a revival. Recently, Konami re-released the first trilogy of games through the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, but what we’re really excited for is the full remake of MGS3.
While neither Hideo Kojima or his team are involved with the remake, the developers have been clear and open about how much they respect the original title, and how they plan to make a worthy modernization of the legendary action espionage game. Should MGS Delta be successful, we could be looking at the revival of the entire series.
