CES 2024

The MSI Claw is a new portable rival facing off against Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally: price, power, screen, and more.

MSI is jumping into the portable gaming hardware competition with a new handheld computer, showing it off at CES 2024.

CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show) is giving us all kinds of news about cutting-edge products, such as the spectacular Samsung TV with a transparent screen, or the reveal of the NVIDIA RTX 40 SUPER GPU, among others. We have seen all kinds of stuff at the fair, but there is something that was expected by everyone even though its appearance was an open secret. We’re talking about the MSI Claw, the handheld console (or portable PC in the form of a console) from the prestigious hardware manufacturer.

A product that arrives with the intention of facing off against both the Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally, since it offers practically the same thing, although with slightly different characteristics that make one thing clear: raw power is its most powerful weapon and it will surely become a compelling attraction for the most enthusiastic players.

MSI Claw: price, screen, and specifications

Let’s start with the screen, a fundamental element in this type of product. MSI Claw has a 7-inch touch panel offering 1080p (Full HD) 120Hz resolution with 500 nits of brightness. As far as the battery is concerned, it’ll have a 53 Whr (watt-hour) battery, so we can expect a range of at minimum two hours in the most demanding conditions (the number of hours increases with a lower workload).

  • The MSI Claw’s engine is an Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 155H with 16 cores and up to 22 threads, 16 GB of RAM, and an Arch Alchemist GPU with 8 XE cores.
  • Regarding the price of MSI Claw, the MSRP is $799 for the 1 TB SSD model and $699 for the 512 GB SSD, which has a slightly less powerful chip.
