The Netflix series ‘One Piece’ reveals the actor who will play Portgas D. Ace in the third season

The live-action adaptation of One Piece is on track to release its second season, which already has a premiere date. Although there are still a few months to go, Netflix is already working on its continuation. Proof of this is the confirmation of the actor who will don the pirate hat as Portgas D. Ace, the character who will debut in the third season.

This is the actor chosen to play Portgas D. Ace in ‘One Piece’

The chosen one is Xolo Maridueña, famous for his long-running role as Miguel Diaz in ‘Cobra Kai’ for 65 episodes between 2018 and 2025. Of Mexican, Cuban, and Ecuadorian descent, the American has spent half his life on stage.

His first major role came with the series Parenthood in 2012. He appeared in 51 episodes over the years until 2015. From then on, he combined live-action projects with voice acting roles, such as in Cleopatra in Space (2020).

His journey with live-action projects began with Cobra Kai in 2018. He then had a small role in Wu-Tang: An American Saga (2021). Two years later, he made the leap to superhero cinema as the star of Blue Beetle (2023). Work on Batwheels (2024) and Invincible (2025) paved the way for Sakamoto Days, where he voices Heisuke Mashimo.

He joins the recently announced actor Cole Escola who will play Barroque Works’ Mr. 2, aka Bon Clay.

The third season of ‘One Piece’ will be a long time coming. There is still a long, long way to go before we see any footage. First, it has to be filmed, and then it has to go through post-production.
