The new Civilization 7 update bring back a map following player backlash
Firaxis reinforces its 4X title by introducing new features and key adjustments.
Three months after its release, Civilization 7 continues to generate debate among player. However, Firaxis seems to be stepping up the pace to improve its latest installment. A surprise update for the game has arrived, bringing with it a challenging new map type that was not present at launch and had generated fan discontent.
Pangaea has arrived in Civilization VII
The main highlight of this unexpected update is the addition of Pangaea maps. Inspired by the prehistoric supercontinent, these maps eliminate the oceanic separation between rivals by placing everyone on a single landmass. This results in much more intense competition for resources from the beginning of the game, forcing players to explore distant islands during the Age of Exploration to find additional deposits.
These maps had been present in previous Civilization titles, but initially, due to the changes in the gameplay of this new release, it was not something contemplated. At the time, Dennis Shirk, producer of Civilization 7, mentioned that “Because of the way the game works, and because of the way the oceans are locked, the only thing we don’t have in Civ [7] right now, unless you do it in a single Age, is the concept of Pangaea.”
In response to community feedback, Firaxis has increased the maximum number of players in the Eras of Antiquity and Exploration in multiplayer mode. Games in these eras can now host four, six, or eight human players, which matches the capacity already offered in Modern Era games. This significant improvement allows larger groups of friends to enjoy the early stages of the game together.
In addition, details have been fixed and adjusted in the leaders and user interface, as well as in the tooltips and other aspects of the game.
