Update:

The first step in Steam’s new hardware ecosystem is here. Valve has confirmed the release date and price of the new Steam Controller, which offers a hybrid experience combining a traditional controller with a touchpad. You can see it in action at the top of this article.

Release Date and Price of the New Steam Controller

Let’s get to the point: The Steam Controller will go on sale on May 4 at 10 a.m. PDT, exclusively on Steam. In the United States, it will be priced at $99, making it the most expensive base controller among the four major manufacturers. It is more expensive than the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller ($89.99), the PS5 DualSense ($74.99), and the Xbox Series X|S controller ($64.99).

That said, it comes standard with features that the competition doesn’t offer. Included is a charging dock that also serves as a docking station. When you connect it to your PC via USB, the controller will automatically pair wirelessly. When you want to charge it, simply connect the controller’s rear port to the dock. It’s that easy.

This isn’t your average controller—it’s a “pro” controller. The back of the chassis features four additional buttons—two on each grip—that are fully customizable using the accessory software included with the Steam client. It also supports gyroscope and vibration.

The most striking feature of its design, as you might expect, are the two haptic panels similar to those offered by Steam. With them, you can natively control your PC’s cursor, emulating a mouse for games that don’t support it, or use a hybrid mode to perform certain functions by switching between the joysticks and the cursor.
