The next James Bond film already has its director, Villeneuve will be in charge of bringing back 007
The acclaimed director of ‘Dune’ and ‘Arrival’ will take the reins of the iconic franchise.
The departure of the Broccoli family as the main producers of the 007 films was one of the most talked-about moves in the film industry this year. Now, with Amazon MGM taking over the complete reins of the films of the world’s most famous British secret agent, the question remained as to how it would proceed or when we would have more information about it. And this morning, we received the news that there is already a director for the next film in this franchise.
From Spices on Arrakis to Spies on Earth
Through a posting on its official blog, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment of Agent 007’s adventures. This announcement, which places one of today’s most visionary filmmakers at the helm of one of Hollywood’s longest-running and most beloved franchises, promises to inject a new energy and perspective into the Bond universe.
Along with Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe will also serve as executive producer. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will continue in their roles as producers, as previously announced.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust,” commented Villeneuve in the press release.
For the time being, the next James Bond movie is still a long way off, as there is still no title, script, release window or even actor to bring 007 to life. In the meantime, we will have the 007 First Light video game as the next thing related to this franchise, for next year.
