‘The Night Eats the World’, a different kind of zombie movie
You go out partying in Paris and the next morning the city is a living graveyard.
Zombies, or the living dead, are one of the most iconic creatures of horror movies, video games, and literature, along with vampires, werewolves, witches, and demons. Everyone knows ‘Night of the Living Dead’, ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘World War Z’ or ‘Resident Evil’, but the genre also has less popular works that have gained many fans over the years, such as ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘Kingdom’. Are you excited to discover another one?
Today’s recommendation is ‘The Night Eats the World’ (‘La nuit a dévoré le monde’), a 2018 French film directed by Dominique Rocher, in which a young man goes to a friend’s house in Paris to enjoy the night, although he can’t say the same about the day, because when he wakes up, there’s nothing in the apartment but blood on the walls and corpses on the floor.
He soon realizes that the city’s inhabitants have turned into zombies, roaming the streets in search of the only thing they are attracted to: fresh meat to feed on. ‘The Night Eats the World’ will not make history, but it offers an interesting experience about survival, isolation and certain moral dilemmas that anyone would face if they found themselves in such a desolate scenario.
