The ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ spin-off starring Brad Pitt now has a release date: it will hit theaters before Netflix
‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ now has a release date, and Netflix continues to prioritize limited theatrical releases over direct-to-platform releases.
‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ (2019) is one of the most celebrated films in Quentin Tarantino’s entire filmography, so ever since the announcement of its spin-off centered on Cliff Booth—Brad Pitt’s character in the original—fans have been eagerly awaiting any new information about the upcoming film. Netflix is financing this project, directed by David Fincher with a screenplay by Tarantino, and has confirmed its release date: it will be available by the end of the year. Best of all? Aside from being an exclusive on the platform itself, it will have a limited theatrical release.
‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth,’ the new film from Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, and David Fincher, confirms its release date
In a post across its various social media profiles, Netflix has confirmed the release date for ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth,’ the spin-off and sequel to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’ According to the platform, it will premiere first in IMAX theaters worldwide on November 25, 2026: this is a limited, exclusive two-week theatrical release window. Meanwhile, the premiere on Netflix itself is scheduled for December 23.
Releasing a film in theaters before it becomes available on Netflix is an unusual strategy, though it’s not the first project to receive this treatment from Ted Sarandos’s company. ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ was the first feature film to blaze this trail, as it will hit theaters on February 10, 2027, while premiering on Netflix two months later: on April 2 of the same year. Everything points to the platform wanting to maximize revenue from its most anticipated projects by combining the usual—albeit limited—theatrical run with subsequent exclusivity within its ecosystem as an incentive to attract subscribers.
‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ is directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino. In addition to Brad Pitt, the film will feature a cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. For now, no specific details about the plot are known, although the title of this new story suggests it will follow the adventures of Cliff Booth, a stuntman, in 1970s Hollywood after he parted ways professionally with Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and survived the brutal Manson family attack on his home.
