The PS5 dashboard ads turned out to be a technical error, and PlayStation has now fixed it

The PS5 community thought there had been a change to the console’s dashboard as Ads and outdated news started appearing, but PlayStation has revealed this was all a mistake.

Good news for PlayStation 5 users: the ads and outdated news that plagued the home screen in the last few days are gone. The update of the new interface incorporated a major change to the background image of each application which caused it to display an ad instead of the typical wallpaper and music of the highlighted game. In a brief statement, PlayStation acknowledged that this error has already been corrected.

“A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved,” begins the company’s official account on X. “There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”

What does the new PlayStation 5 interface change?

The new PS5 interface mainly alters the space you see on the screen when you start your console. A new menu called “Welcome Hub” is added, which you can customize by adding widgets that show you information about various elements of the console, such as your friends, trophies, screenshots of the players you have added, the battery status of the controller and much more.

The update was announced on September 12 with the United States as the first country chosen as a beta. Little by little, as the weeks passed, the problems that were found when putting it in the hands of the players were corrected.
