The purchase of the James Bond rights by Amazon was for a very low price

New details of this deal were revealed by EON Productions.

Amazon MGM Studios’ purchase of the James Bond rights was one of the most surprising moves at the beginning of this year. This purchase removed producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson and gave the company complete control of the intellectual property. Although the purchase price was not disclosed at the time, it was revealed through a tax filing.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that EON Productions, the former 007 franchise production company that held the rights for many years, received a total of $20 million. According to the filing, there is a section that makes the following note: “On February 20, 2025, the company entered into an agreement for the sale of its interest in the Bond franchise, all associated assets, as well as its subsidiary companies, B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total consideration for the sale amounted to $20 million (USD).”

The figure is surprising, considering that this is one of the most famous fictional characters of the 20th century and the purchase was made by one of the largest technology companies in the world. Although the figure is small for a franchise of this caliber (by comparison, Daniel Craig reportedly received $25 million for playing James Bond in No Time To Die), THR mentions that Broccoli and Wilson will continue to receive money from the franchise “through the joint venture structure of the deal. It is also possible that there are other elements like earnouts or stock options that could impact the value of the final sale price. Sources said at the time that the total value could be closer to $1 billion.”
