Update:

In 1996, Tom Cruise starred in the film reboot of the seasoned television seriesMission: Impossible’. The actor took on the role of Ethan Hunt, delivering a remarkable performance full of scenes that offered a glimpse of what he would later become. However, the two sequels began with a decline that, fortunately, was halted in time.

Mission: Impossible 2’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 3’ were completely empty films. Hunt himself no longer mattered, only the spectacle, the fireworks, the popcorn... Fortunately, five years later, the saga would enjoy a new reboot, although it was not considered as such, but that is what ‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’ really was. The person responsible for it was the last person anyone expected to save the saga from ostracism.

‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.’ the real turning point

‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’ (2011) was not without its dizzying scenes, which are, after all, a hallmark of the series. However, a notable change in the film’s approach was discovered, with greater emphasis on espionage, even though it is difficult to forget that scene in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa building.

Jeremy Renner joined the cast and played an important role, but the real winner was Simon Pegg, who brought the balanced touch of humor that the saga has shown ever since. However, credit must go to the director, Brad Bird, who at first glance seemed far from being the most suitable choice for an installment of this franchise.

The salvation of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ saga came from the most unexpected source

Bird’s most popular films up until then were ‘Ratatouille’ and ‘The Incredibles.’ But that was precisely what the director brought to ‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’, an innovative vision in a franchise that needed a breath of fresh air or was doomed to be forgotten forever. An undeniable achievement, especially considering that actors and actresses of the caliber of Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby, Rebecca Ferguson, and Pom Klementieff had yet to arrive.

‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’ is currently available on Paramount Plus, Starz, and Philo.
