The Simpsons movie sequel is scheduled for release in the summer of 2027

20th Century Studios confirms the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 blockbuster.

Update:

After nearly two decades of waiting, television’s most famous yellow family is ready to return to the big screen. 20th Century has officially confirmed the production and release date of The Simpsons 2, the sequel to the hit 2007 film. The new film, starring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, promises to be one of the most anticipated events of its generation.

Although plot details are minimal, the studio has already released the first official poster on Instagram, accompanied by a key phrase that hints at the tone of the film: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

Historic Success of The Simpsons Movie

The Simpson family’s first foray into cinema in July 2007 was a resounding global success for FOX, following a long development process.

Box Office data and original plot:

  • Global Box Office: $536 million.
  • Production Budget: $75 million.
  • Plot Summary: The film focused on how Homer polluted Springfield Lake, leading to the town being encapsulated under a giant glass dome. The family escaped to Alaska but returned to save their home from destruction.

Positioning on the 2027 release calendar

The arrival of The Simpsons 2 on July 23, 2027, is strategically positioned on the film calendar. The date takes advantage of a key slot in the Marvel Studios (MCU) release calendar, as it is scheduled to fall between the releases of the next two Avengers films:

  • Avengers: Doomsday: December 18, 2026
  • Avengers: Secret Wars: December 17, 2027
