The Simpsons say goodbye to Milhouse’s voice: what’ll happen to the character?

The voice actress who gave voice to Milhouse in The Simpsons is retiring after 35 years with the role, leaving the future of the character in the air.

With how many times we’ve watched an endless amount of The Simpsons reruns, Milhouse has kind of become another member of your family. Imagine then what it’s like for Pamela Hayden, the actress who has been giving voice to him since the series began in 1989. For 36 seasons and 774 episodes that it has been on the air, Hayden has given voice to the blue-haired boy. But everything in this life has an end, and Hayden will say goodbye to the character on November 24, during the broadcast of a new special of ‘Treehouse of Horror’.

In a beautiful video published on the official Disney channels, the actress assures that, at her 70 years, “the moment to hang up the microphone” has finally arrived and she admits it’s not exactly easy to say goodbye to ‘The Simpsons’. “It’s not easy. It has been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a fun, witty and groundbreaking series. It’s the greatest job in the world.” Hayden not only played Milhouse, but also characters like Rob and Todd Flanders, Stacy Malibu, and Jimbo Jones.

“People come up to me and they quote Milhouse lines,” says the actress in the video. “People are always saying what a nerd he is. But one thing that I love about Milhouse is he’s always getting knocked down but he keeps getting up. I love the little guy.” Definitely, there are no more good days, Bart, only days.

Milhouse and ‘The Simpsons’

Variety has revealed that a new casting call for the characters will be held to fill the space left by Hayden, but this wouldn’t be the first time that the exit of a voice talent in the series directly translates to the character disappearing from the show. When Marta Wallace, the person who played Edna Krabappel, passed away, Fox did not dare to replace her, and when the controversy broke out around the racism surrounding Apu, the company decided to suddenly retire both the Quick-E-Mart’s owner and his actor, Hank Azaria. We will see what his goodbye will be like on November 24th.
