The Skyrim grandma is retiring from making gameplay videos after 10 years: “It isn’t fun anymore’

Shirley Curry, the famous 88-year-old Skyrim Youtuber, has announced she’s not making videos about the game anymore, as she’s moving on from the Bethesda title.

After more than 9 years of uploading gameplay videos of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Shirley Curry is retiring from creating content focused on Bethesda’s game. The beloved Shirley Curry, also known as the “Skyrim Grandma”, has announced that she will stop uploading videos related to video games -mostly Skyrim, obviously- because “it’s isn’t fun anymore”.

With a more than considerable volume of content, the 88-year-old already had to take a break four years ago due to the poor reception of some of her videos, with few views (less than 10K with more than 800K subscribers) and little retention time. “I’m wasting my time, and it’s stressing me out”, she said then. However, now it seems like the retirement is final.

Curry herself announced this in a video titled No More Gaming Videos, in which she puts forward some very weighty reasons. “It seems I spend most of my time sitting in here at this computer, and lately—probably for the last month—I walk in here, look at my computer and think ‘I’ve got to make a video today.’ And then I just shake my head at myself and say ‘I don’t want to, I have no desire to,’ and I walk back out.”

However, she also revealed that she will not leave her YouTube channel completely, which has no less than almost 1.3 million subscribers. Curry assured fans that she will continue making vlog videos when she receives a gift or buys “something that is nice.” Luckily, and unlike what happened in 2020, this time the comments she has received are supportive and understanding, having left behind a gigantic legacy of videos about TES V: Skyrim.
