The Street Fighter movie boasts fidelity with new character posters modeled after the fighters from the games
The 2026 Street Fighter movie surprises fans with new character posters that look like they came straight out of the video game.

The Game Awards 2025 gala not only served as the culmination of a 2025 full of successes such as Expedition 33, but also left us with many interesting announcements, such as the one we have before us. The new Street Fighter movie is going from strength to strength, and after a new preview at the ceremony, it has left behind 17 new character posters that dispel many of the doubts surrounding the project: it will be a faithful adaptation of Capcom’s popular fighting games... at least in visual and aesthetic terms.
The new Street Fighter shows off 17 new posters of its characters that look like they’ve been taken straight from the video game
Following the presentation of a new teaser for the film at The Game Awards gala on Friday, December 12, the official social media accounts for the Street Fighter movie surprised fans not only with the release of the short preview itself, but also with the arrival of 17 new posters of its main characters, which we have included in an image gallery just below this paragraph.

With this extensive repertoire of portraits, one of the big questions surrounding this project has been cleared up. Actors such as David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Jason Momoa are portrayed almost perfectly as their respective characters, which will undoubtedly reassure even the most demanding fans. The 1994 film starring Van Damme also had good characterization, yes, but its plot took too many liberties, although that does not seem to be the case in this 2026 adaptation.
One of the main complaints about previous adaptations such as Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) was precisely how far removed they were visually from the video games, not only in terms of plot, but also in terms of aesthetics and visuals. However, the new posters for Street Fighter (2026) reveal that Legendary Pictures and Capcom are taking this new adaptation quite seriously, featuring the iconic outfits worn by such emblematic characters as Ryu, Ken, and M. Bison for more than three decades.
Street Fighter (2026): release date, synopsis, cast, and everything we know
This adaptation of Street Fighter will be released on October 16, 2026. The film is being produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom itself, and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who also directed the acclaimed adaptation Twisted Metal, based on the Sony video games of the same name, and the screenplay is by Dalan Musson (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: Brave New World). Here is the cast:
- Noah Centineo as “Ken Masters”
- Andrew Koji as “Ryu”
- Callina Liang as “Chun-Li”
- Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as “Akuma”
- David Dastmalchian as “M. Bison”
- Cody Rhodes as “Guile”
- Andrew Schulz as “Dan Hibiki”
- Eric André as “Don Sauvage”
- Vidyut Jammwal as “Dhalsim”
- Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as “Balrog”
- Jason Momoa as “Blanka”
- Orville Peck as “Vega”
- Olivier Richters as “Zangief”
- Hirooki Goto as “E. Honda”
- Rayna Vallandingham as “Juli”
- Alexander Volkanovski as “Joe”
- Kyle Mooney as “Marvin”
- Mel Jarnson as “Cammy”
The official synopsis is as follows: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
Although the synopsis suggests that this is an adaptation of the legendary Street Fighter II (1991), the presence of several characters implies that this world tournament expands to also cover the plot of other titles such as the first Street Fighter (1987) or even Street Fighter V (2016). Of the original Street Fighter II characters, only Sagat is missing, but otherwise, there seems to be a conscious intention to bring to the big screen an adaptation that is as faithful as possible to the video game that marked an entire era in arcades across the globe, something backed up by the forceful fights with colorful choreography previewed in the teaser.

And this is precisely the great unfinished business of the saga in its many live-action adaptations; while other intellectual properties such as Fallout have successfully made the leap to a new medium, Capcom seems to continue to struggle with IPs such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil. Therefore, the goal is to offer a good story that not only works at the box office using the Street Fighter name as a hook, but also at the critical level. Only time will tell if this new Street Fighter movie will finally break the “curse” of its adaptations, or if, on the contrary, it will end up being another lost battle.
