This is a real game changer: a few days ago, we told you that The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the best premiere of a video game movie. Even after a mixed reception by the critics, now there are no more achievements to accomplish because we are not only talking about the premiere, but it is also the most successful adaptation of all time, with more than 500 million dollars at the box office.

With $260.3 million in Japan and $248.4 in the rest of the world, The Super Mario Bros. Movie stands at $508.7 million at the box office. It is beginning to pull away from its closest competitor - Warcraft, the 2016 film that managed to reach $439 million at the box office after several years on the market. To put the film’s resounding success in perspective, Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania has yet to be able to surpass $475 million.

The highest-grossing video game movies in history

The number of video game adaptations that can come close to The Super Mario Bros. Movie can easily be counted on the fingers of one hand. The list includes titles from well-known and famous franchises, as well as the special case of having a talent like The Rock. Below is a list of those that have managed to surpass the $400 million mark.
