The Super Mario Galaxy Movie doubles down on fan service and shows Yoshi in its new Nintendo Direct
“So some dinosaur just shows up and is now part of the group?... Cool”
This morning, we woke up early for a new Nintendo Direct focused on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. At 9:00 a.m. ET sharp, the presentation began, giving us a new look at the upcoming animated film featuring Super Mario and friends, which we hope will continue the streak of successful video game adaptations. Although short in length (only about 5 minutes), we got a new look at the film, as well as details related to it.
Everything we learned about ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ during the film’s second Nintendo Direct
Shigeru Miyamoto was the one to show the second trailer for this movie. In it, we see Mario and Luigi already accustomed to their life as protectors of the Mushroom Kingdom, and it is the perfect introduction to Yoshi. The trailer is full of nods and references to characters, places, and tunes that have been part of the franchise’s history for 40 years.
If there is one thing worth highlighting, it is the presence of all these little nods and details, from the frog suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 to the appearance of Birdo, somehow the presence of Baby Mario and Luigi, and the use of music from the games to bring this trailer to life.
For his part, Chris Meledandri spoke about the status of the film. Currently, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is already in post-production, with the music and special effects being the final details that are currently being worked on before its release.
The only disappointment is that we didn’t see anything related to Bowser Jr. or Rosalina. But hey, at least the leak a few months ago about Yoshi, as well as his post-credits scene in the first movie, have already paid off.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere on April 3, 2026, in theaters worldwide.
