Update:

After the turbulent 1990s with video game adaptations to film, we have had better adaptations and products. For some time now, Nintendo has made it clear that its characters are ready to make the leap to the big screen. The first was Super Mario, and now The Legend of Zelda movie is coming. And now, the next stop will be a return to the Mushroom Kingdom under the name The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which showed its first trailer this morning.

Everything we learned about ‘Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie’ during the Nintendo Direct

Shigeru Miyamoto also participated in Nintendo Direct, welcoming viewers to this adventure that will take Mario into space. Joining Miyamoto was Chris Meledandri from Illumination, who assured viewers that the collaboration between the studio and Nintendo will bring back several favorites from the Super Mario series.

If there’s one thing we can learn from this first trailer, it’s that Bowser has become quite the artist, and yes, it’s confirmed that Bowser Jr. and Rosalina will be in the movie, voiced by Benny Safdie and Brie Larson, respectively. Sadly, there was no sign of Yoshi.

The film will be released as part of the celebration of Super Mario’s 40th anniversary, which combines new installments in the series with other investments in film and other media. Mario Tennis Fever will arrive on February 12, while the upcoming Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will follow sometime in the spring of 2026. Both titles follow in the footsteps of the Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 compilation, which is already available on Nintendo Switch (backward compatible with Nintendo Switch 2).

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere on April 3, 2026, in theaters worldwide.
