The talented Japanese creator returns with a promising action-adventure.
We’ve all been eager to see it in action for a while now, and Summer Game Fest 2026 was the perfect stage to showcase it. We finally have the long-awaited trailer for gen ATLAS, the new game from Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. Unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 as Project Robot, this sci-fi action-adventure with open-world elements is already shaping up to be a must-have for fans of the talented Japanese creator. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
“Without knowing why, you awaken on an abandoned planet. Before you lies a vast, silent world. Colossal structures stretch over endless plains.” As is typical of Fumito Ueda’s work, everything seems perfectly crafted to pique the player’s interest and draw them into a fascinating world without them being able to imagine all that lies ahead. The brief synopsis is promising, and what’s shown in the trailer makes it clear that we haven’t seen even half of it.
There’s also mention of “an ever-changing sea” and finding “the remnants of some grand design.” Certain similarities to The Last Guardian are evident, as the protagonist, disoriented upon finding himself in such a place, will be aided by a gigantic robot.

While ICO and The Last Guardian certainly deserve mention, there’s no denying that Shadow of the Colossus is Fumito Ueda’s most acclaimed title from his time leading the now-defunct Team ICO. An unforgettable adventure that received a stunning graphical remake in 2018, it is currently available on PS5 via the PS5 version.
