The unexpected villain from ‘Superman’ that John Cena’s Peacemaker faces in his series
The terrifying kaiju that threatened the city of Metropolis in ‘Superman’ (2025) has ‘returned’ in the second season of ‘Peacemaker’. How is this possible, and what are the implications?
Peacemaker is one of the key series within James Gunn’s DCU, not only because it illustrates the transition from the DCEU to this new universe so well, but also because it serves as a sequel to the acclaimed Superman starring David Corenswet. And precisely in an attempt to establish stronger ties between the two works, the most recent episode of Peacemaker featured an unexpected character that Superman faced: the enormous kaiju that threatened Metropolis in his feature film.

Peacemaker brings back the kaiju from Superman, and it makes perfect sense
Episode 5 of season 2 of Peacemaker, titled “Back to the Suture,” has brought back the terrifying kaiju that Superman faced in his 2025 movie. Although in the main continuity this creature was defeated by the Justice League and finally eliminated by Mister Terrific, its appearance in ‘Peacemaker’ has been very significant, as it is an alternative version of the monster that has invaded the parallel “heroic” dimension.
Aside from being a very smart move in terms of recycling existing assets and saving resources, the appearance of the kaiju in the alternate dimension serves to establish the Top Trio, composed of Peacemaker, his father, the White Dragon, and his brother Keith, as the main superheroes of this universe. In other words, the fact that they are not only the ones who defeat this alternate kaiju, but were also the first to be called upon, serves to contextualize the relevance of these superheroes in the alternate universe.
Although nothing has been confirmed yet, one theory being floated by fans is that metahumans do not exist in this dimension, meaning that superheroes are ordinary humans who use high-tech weapons and tools. This would explain why A.R.G.U.S. relies on the Top Trio to eradicate threats that endanger the planet, rather than calling on other superheroes such as Green Lantern or Superman himself: they may simply not exist on this parallel Earth.
