The upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ series already has a runner-up for the role of Lara Croft, and it’s a ‘Game of Thrones’ veteran

Prime Video is working on a ‘Tomb Raider’ series, and it seems like they already have their eye on a possible actress to star as the hero.

Lara Croft’s last appearance on the big screen is already far behind us. Alicia Vikander starred in a reboot in 2018 in which she claimed her space in the genre, but the movie did not manage to gain the public’s attention as the filmmakers had hoped. Now Amazon has picked up the baton to produce a new live-action series that already has two clear favorites to play the starring role of the archaeologist/adventurer.

The two favorites to play Lara Croft in Amazon’s new ‘Tomb Raider’ series

According to a report by Deadline, Sophie Turner is leading the race for the role. The british actress demonstrated her strength on the stage by playing Lady Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ during the eight seasons that the series lasted. Her time in Westeros showed that she can deal with heavier roles without issue.

The other actress being considered is Lucy Boynton, known for her work in ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ (2017), ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (2018), ‘The Pale Blue Eye’ (2022) and ‘Barbie’ (2023). Both have gone through tests that the production company has held in absolute secrecy, as the role has turned out to be quite sought after. We are no longer just talking about the fact that it is a legendary license within the video game industry, but it also means succeeding in the role of such high-profile performers as Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Very little information is known about the series. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, declared a few months ago that the adventure will travel across the planet at events “epic” scale. The project exudes passion from its executive producer, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who then revealed her love for the character: “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as well as a lot, and I can’t wait to get into the adventure.” Its release window has not yet passed.
