The Warlock opens the gates of hell on Diablo’s 30th anniversary and arrives across the entire franchise
Blizzard introduces the first new class in 25 years for Diablo II and expands it to Immortal and Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred.
2026 is a very special year for Blizzard. Beyond its 35th anniversary, several of its franchises are also celebrating important milestones. Diablo is one of them, turning 30 years old. As part of the celebration, the gates of hell have reopened to reveal information about the franchise’s current titles, touching on the past, present, and future of Diablo.
The Warlock arrives for everyone
The three current Diablo titles will receive a new class: the Warlock. This will be the class that was yet to be announced for the Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion, which will arrive on April 28, 2026. Diablo Immortal will receive it in June 2026. But the real surprise is that Diablo II Resurrected is incorporating it starting today with the Reign of the Warlock update.
Diablo II Resurrected gets a makeover with Reign of the Warlock
This arrival is particularly significant, as it represents the first new class in Diablo II in 25 years. With this, the Warlock joins the roster of eight classes as a master scholar of “demonology,” who not only kills demons, but binds them to his will. He can summon three types of demons: Goatman, Tainted, and Defiler, each with their own abilities.
The Warlock is not limited to summoning alone, but also plays an important role in the mechanics of binding and devouring. The former allows you to stop the demons you face, while the latter allows you to absorb the essence of the demon accompanying you, granting temporary upgrades to the Warlock. This opens up multiple combinations and rewards players who experiment with its possibilities. In addition to demons, the Warlock can also cast powerful spells. When it comes to direct combat, this class also uses weapons for melee combat.
The Warlock isn’t the only new addition to Diablo II Resurrected. Terror Zones are also being added, special areas focused on the endgame, loaded with enemies, increased difficulty, and better rewards. Also coming are the Heralds of Terror, hunters who pursue players and become increasingly powerful. By eliminating them, you can obtain one of five statues; by collecting them all, you unlock a new battle against the Colossal Ancestors.
Quality of life improvements have also been added, such as in-game loot filters. Advanced chest tabs allow you to accumulate gems and runes, offering a cleaner and more organized experience. Finally, the Chronicle acts as a log to keep track of everything you’ve collected throughout your adventure.
A Warlock to go will arrive in Diablo Immortal this summer
The celebration will continue in Diablo Immortal in June with its own version of the Warlock. This version is described as reckless with its dark power. He will be able to open portals to summon and command demons, with the Soul Devourer being the most powerful innovation he incorporates. As weapons, he carries a demon’s head in one hand and a sacrificial weapon in the other. With its release in June 2026, there will also be an origin mission that will reveal his story and the motivations that drive him.
Among the new places to visit is Lut Gholein. It preserves key areas from Diablo II that define the city, albeit with the changes expected within the world of Diablo. The city has been divided into two districts, the Common Ward and the High Guard, inspired by Moroccan architecture. This won’t be the only thing we’ll be exploring, as you’ll also be able to explore the underground city beneath Lut Gholein, which hides a secret.
More stories will come in the future with the introduction of Maiden of Anguish, Andariel. In this narrative, she will be ten steps ahead of us, kidnapping people... but the purpose behind her actions will be revealed when this story comes to the game.
The Paladin’s counterpart also arrives in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred
Unlike the other versions of the Warlock shown, here we find the class at its peak, described by its creators as “a heavy metal album come to life.” The Warlock is the dark counterpart to the Paladin, the first class presented, and this duality is no coincidence, as it seeks to be a central theme of the expansion. More information about the Warlock will be released on March 5.
What was revealed was the new region coming with the expansion: Scovos. It is an area of islands inspired by the Mediterranean, considered the cradle of humanity. Temis, its capital, is designed to become the ideal city for the game’s endgame.
As part of the expansion, War Plans are also arriving, a feature focused on the endgame that allows players to create a list of up to five activities to complete, thus charting a personalized path of rewards. With a high level of customization, the aim is to make the endgame even more accessible to both new and veteran players.
On the other hand, skill trees are expanding, with each class receiving an increase in options. These changes are designed to offer greater customization, providing alternatives within each skill and allowing them to better suit each user’s play style.
Finally, the Talisman is added, which gives access to trinkets to customize and adjust character builds. Along with this, the Horadric Cube is also introduced, which allows you to craft legendary weapons by combining them with rare materials.
More surprises are on the way, and it looks like we’ll have to wait until BlizzCon 2026.
