Ubisoft
The Watch Dogs movie has finally begun filming
It’s taken well over a decade since the project was first announced, but filming on the Watch Dogs live-action adaptation has finally begun.
It’s been a long wait, but after many years of pre-production, Ubisoft’s live-action adaptation of their sci-fi series, Watch Dogs, has finally started filming.
The announcement comes straight from Ubisoft, who posted on their official Twitter/X account a picture of the movie’s film slate as they begin working on a scene, alongside the message “Lights_Camera_Action.exe.” Of course, the picture doesn’t reveal much, as the clapperboard obscures whoever is in the scene sitting in front of a computer. Judging by the RGB lighting on their keyboard, it’s quite possible they’re one of the hackers.
The Watch Dogs live-action movie is being directed by Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark), with a script written by Christie LeBlanc with revisions by Victoria Bata, under the production of New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann, as well as Ubisoft’s Margaret Boykin.
As for the stars who will become the vigilantes of DedSec, Tom Blyth, who recently had a starring role in the Hunger Games prequel, ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, has been signed on to star in the upcoming video game adaptation. And he will do so alongside Sophie Wilde, who was previously reported to have been in talks with the studio to act as the protagonist.
No further details have been revealed about the plot for Watch Dogs, and it’s not been revealed if it’ll directly adapt any of the stories shown so far in the franchise’s games. The ‘Watch Dogs’ video game series has over 50 million players and explores the world of hackers fighting against oppressive forces in major cities around the world. The franchise has expanded into books and comics, with the latest game, “Watch Dogs: Legion,” released in 2020 moderate success. However, the series has not been as successful as other Ubisoft franchises, and currently has no announced sequel in the work.
