There will be a Season 2 of Those About to Die: Everything We Know

The first season of the new series Swords and Sandals has already premiered on Peacock, but the question remains whether there will be a second season.

‘Those About to Die’, the latest series starring Anthony Hopkins, Iwan Rheon and Sara Martins, premiered its first season last week, on July 18th. With the entire season premiering in one day and many series marathoners wanting more, the question remains whether there will be a second season. Here’s everything we know about the show’s future.

Will There Be a Season 2 of ‘Those About to Die’?

The short (and so far official) answer is that ‘Those About to Die’ will not be getting a Season 2. NBC has not ordered a second season, although that could change. It was Roland Emmerich himself who recently hinted in an interview that he plans to continue the series based on the book of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix.

The director, also known for his work in disaster movies such as ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Day After Tomorrow’, commented on his intention to make this second season in an interview with the podcast Bingeworthy. The director’s answer came in the context of his upcoming projects:

“I have a big, big film project. And I don’t know if I should do the second season of [’Those About to Die?] first or if I should do a film project and then the second season. I don’t know yet,” commented Emmerich. “It’s a little bit like the sequel to ‘The Day After Tomorrow,’ in that we’re a stupid race. And we kind of don’t understand what we’re doing to our planet… It’s a totally different story and characters [from ‘Day After Tomorrow’]. But, yeah, we’re a stupid race. That’s what we are.”

For now, the decision remains in the hands of Peacock, who must weigh critical and audience response and viewership against the investment in the series. Given that the series will be launching in more countries via Prime Video in the coming days, this analysis may take longer than expected.
