These are the 12 finalists for induction into the World Video Game Hall of Fame in 2025

As it does every year, the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, announces the list of games nominated for induction into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. The list began in 2015 and currently includes more than 40 games in the Hall of Fame. These games are selected based on the criteria of iconic status, longevity, geographic reach, and influence.

Hall of Fame inductees include classics like Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Pong, and The Oregon Trail, as well as generation-defining titles like Doom, The Sims, Grand Theft Auto III, Mortal Kombat, StarCraft, and The Last of Us.

Among this year’s nominees are titles that meet the museum’s criteria and hope to be included in the Class of 2025:

“This year’s finalists span the decades and range from arcade classics to one of the most popular mobile games of all time,” Jon-Paul C. Dyson, director of The Strong’s International Center for the History of Electronic Games, said in a news release. “All of these games have enormously influenced pop culture or the game industry itself.”

We will have to wait and see if Angry Birds finally makes it into the Hall of Fame, as the title has been a finalist in previous years without making it into the coveted Hall of Fame. The finalists for the Class of 2025 will be announced on May 8.
