These are the two criteria that the studio used to create the roster for Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero

The new title in the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise features more than 180 fighters.

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will feature more than 180 characters, an impressive roster that spans the various sagas of Akira Toriyama’s work. The video game has drawn fighters from the latest manga and anime, such as ‘Dragon Ball Super’ and ‘Dragon Ball Daima’. In an interview with MeriStation and other media, producer Jun Furutami explained his reasons for choosing the main characters for the title. Although he did not reveal the internal processes, he did share two of the criteria they followed.

That is all the producer can say about character selection

The producer admits that they can’t go into detail about the criteria for character selection, but adds that they took into account the various templates that have been part of the saga throughout the three main installments. Since so much time has passed since the release of Dragon Ball Budoaki Tenkaichi 3, the brand itself has expanded with new products such as ‘Dragon Ball Super’ and the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima′ series, which has also contributed to the addition of unreleased characters:

“So in regards to the characters, they have plans to release three DLC packs [covering characters from] Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and from DAIMA”.

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will be released on October 11 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. It marks the return of the Budokai Tenkaichi saga more than 15 years after the release of the third installment.
