“They wouldn’t even have to pay me”; Alan Ritchson (‘Reacher’) is once again throwing his name in to be the DCU’s new Batman
Despite Ritchson’s wishes, James Gunn has assured on several occasions that he is not contemplating it.
The list of candidates to play James Gunn’s DCU Batman is long, and one of those who has previously applied is Alan Ritchson, the beefy ‘Reacher’ star. Ritchson has again been asked about that possibility and has jumped at the chance to re-offer himself for the role of Bruce Wayne.
“The fact that people are thinking of me to be Batman is an honor and a privilege,” he said last year, confessing that it is one of his favorite characters from his childhood. Now again he has been asked this question, and he couldn’t be more emphatic in his desire.
“What I find amazing about this Batman rumor, or Batman wish, is the fact that James Gunn has personally and publicly announced on his Twitter, or X, or wherever: ‘LOL, he won’t play Batman. He won’t play Batman!’ And this thing won’t die”, Ritchson said. “I get asked every day if I’ll play Batman. Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? They wouldn’t even have to pay me to be Batman. Yes, I’d wear the suit. ‘Gotham is mine. Look at that. I don’t even have to practice. It just comes naturally to me.”
What’s the word on the DCU Batman?
Not many things are certain: it will be based on ‘The Brave & The Bold’, its director will be Andy Muschietti, and the possibility that it will eventually be Robert Pattinson is practically ruled out. Also, and as is evident, that it will be released beyond 2027 -when the sequel to ‘The Batman’ would arrive-, as confirmed by the Argentine director himself, and as he opined, “releasing two Batman movies simultaneously would be counterproductive”.
“What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure that these two films do not conflict with each other,” continued Muschietti. “As far as my involvement in the project, so far there are good intentions. They want to do the movie with me and I want to do it too. I’m eager to work on the film. We are talking about the story and the tone,” he concludes.
